A new year brings a new crop of precious little newborns. I can’t get enough of these sweet little babies! Miss Sydney was as cute as can be…and so was Big Brother. He’s grown so much since his own newborn session 3 years ago.

{The Luckiest}

We just got back to Round Rock from our summer family vacation on Galveston Island. Excited about some different scenery than the Austin locations I am used to shooting at, I took the opportunity to do a beach shoot with my own two little ones. Having a photographer for a mother, they don’t always want to play model for me…but both enjoyed playing in the sand and hunting for seashells. It was a perfect morning on the beach!

When I bought these rompers for the studio a year ago, I kept envisioning them as vintage swimsuits….thus became the inspiration for this shoot. Even though it was Texas beaches, I wanted a Cape Cod feel to it. I love the way it turned out!

For some reason, when I am editing a shoot, a song lyric or scripture verse will pop in my head that seems to describe the way the shoot makes me feel. With this one, it was “Luckiest” by Ben Folds Five

I don’t get many things right the first time,

{Small Town, USA}

My husband and I just got back from a long weekend in the great state of Virginia. The occasion was to attend the wedding of one of my good friends from college (more on that amazing wedding later)…but we figured we’d make a little mini-vacation out of it as well.

We made no plans…just decided we’d figure it out when we got there. So we rented a convertible and took off to the small town of Culpeper, Virginia…just an hour outside of Washington, D.C.

What we found was a beautiful, quaint small town filled with history, art and southern hospitality. We stayed at the modern and chic, Suites at 249…just steps away from great shopping and dining with the best Keylime Pie and Blueberry Scones I have ever tasted.

Saturday morning we woke up to a little farmer’s market right across the street from our 6 room hotel. Farm fresh eggs, fresh bread and bouquets of Peonies hand picked from the garden. There I met Amy (pictured below with her husband) who was selling her awesome homemade cinnamon rolls. She says they’re so good, because she grinds the wheat herself and they makes the dough immediately following…wow! She was the sweetest lady, just like everyone we met in this little town.

We also enjoyed visiting several historical sites, vineyards and even a moonshine distillery that had been in operation for 100 years (some times legal, some times not according to Farmer Joe, who gave us the tour around his barn.)

I definitely fell in love with this adorable, little town and the beautiful Virginia countryside.

{The Actor}

Meet Brandon. My Brother, the Actor. In need of a fresh headshot, he decided fly home to Austin for his updated look and let Sister, the Photographer, help him out.

My 4 year old saw me editing his shoot and said, “Mommy, is THAT Uncle Brandon?? He is GORGEOUS!”

I laughed so hard!! He is, but it’s funny to hear it from her:)

I am really proud of this guy. He’s been coast to coast working on his career, and is in the final weeks of finishing is graduate work at Rutgers University. So when you see him on the big stage or big screen…you saw him here FIRST! And hopefully when he wins his first Oscar, he’ll give a shout out to his sister!

Jenna is sophisticated without even trying. She describes her fashion sense as “simple”, but I think she is so elegant. She is so poised and sweet, it’s hard to make anything but beautiful photographs of her!

The baby in a family of 3 girls (all of which I have photographed over the years), Jenna is ready to follow her sisters to Texas A&M (whoop!). Thanks for allowing me to create your senior portraits!

When you get two 4 year olds in a photo shoot, you know to expect the unexpected! These two kept me on my toes, but having a daughter exactly the same age, I was totally used to that! This was my 3rd year to document this family and I look forward to continuing to watch them grow over the years. We did several awesome wall pieces from this shoot including a 54 inch gallery wrap for the breakfast room and a gorgeous custom framed piece for Miss N’s room.

Meet Baby Elliott. This precious little newborn is Baby #2 for my BFF, Lisa. He and Big Sis Zoe are just 14 months apart, so Mom and Dad have a busy next couple of years ahead of them. My own girls love this family and have affectionately named their own baby dolls, Zoe and Elliott. The first photo on the line up is the one we did for a 20×30 gallery wrap for his Rock-N-Roll nursery. It looks AMAZING!!

Seriously! Can this family be more perfect?? Little Hayden is such a heart breaker and always charms me every time I photograph him. His mom and dad are just the perfect couple and as sweet as can be…and Mom is just a natural beauty with such poise in front of the camera.

This is my second time to shoot this family this season. First Mom’s side of the family in Dallas a few weeks ago, and now Dad’s side of the family here in Austin. I told Kristi she is going to have her work cut out for her with TWO amazing sessions to work off of. We are going to have to do an album to get it all in (or buy a bigger house:)

This family amazes me every time we are together. They are funny, polite and great in front of a camera! I started photographing this family when the boys where babies…and looking at them now, it’s hard to believe how much they have grown! The first time I photographed them 5 years ago, Maddy (the oldest) said the most adorable thing I think I have ever heard during a shoot…”This photography stuff is hard work! Now I know how Tyra Banks feels!” It still makes me laugh just thinking about it:)

I love the different personalities that each of these kids brings to the family…not to mention some great fashion sense! There are so many amazing shots from this shoot, it may deserve 2 blog posts…but I had to post a few in mid-edit. Can’t wait to show you all of them, L!

{Almost all grown up}- Round Rock Family Photographer

There is something about sister relationships that always get to me. Maybe it’s because I never had one of my own (although I have a couple of friends that come very close)…or maybe it’s because I am the mother of two little girls. There is a bond among sisters that is like no other.

As I raise my girls, I always tell them to remember that sisters come first, because you will always have each other. Even though their personalities are very different and they don’t always get along…I want them to always be able to count on each other.

As I photographed these two adorable and spirited young women…I could fast forward and see my own two years from now. I hope they will be just as beautiful inside and out.
